Stephanie & Coedi: Boho meets industrial at this Sole Repair wedding in Seattle

November 12, 2018

Stephanie & Coedi were perhaps the most relaxed bride & groom we’ve ever met! Coedi is in the Navy and spent the 6 months prior to the wedding away at sea with limited contact with the outside world, including his fiancee! So Steph, not wanting to have to take on the stress of doing everything alone was happy to let us handle a lot of the details. This is always a double edged sword, on the one hand it’s incredible  to have a client’s trust and to be given free reign but on the other it’s a huge responsibility!  Seeing everything come together and witnessing how happy they both were on the day was the most incredible feeling and absolutely the reason we do what we do.

The couple chose Sole Repair on Capitol Hill, Seattle for it’s intimate and industrial feel as well as it’s location. Their main concern was that their friends would have a good time and they wanted a venue that was easily accessible and would provide ample opportunity for an after party. However, Steph had also fallen in love with a more remote outdoor venue, and while it didn’t end up being the right fit for them we wanted to incorporate some of those vibes into the decor.

Colibri Blooms was the perfect florist for the job! She created an incredible ceremony installation and used greenery around the bistro lighting and on the walls to bring a little of the outdoors inside. The bridal bouquet featured dahlias and pampas grass and the bridesmaids carried greenery bouquets.

The couple new from the offset that they wanted to have a dark and moody vibe with lots of green and black which formed the basis of the reception tables. We added bud vases from World Market and leather escort cards from Love Fern Design as a nod to Sole Repair’s heritage. The couple also have a love affair with Japan and so we incorporated origami birds to the decor, both on the tables and around the venue.

Other than the color scheme, the cake was the most important detail to the Bride & Groom! Coedi had specified that the cake ‘must look like a wedding cake!’ Sift & Gather brought her usual flair and originality to the task, it definitely looked every bit like a wedding cake but with her trademark floral design and gradient frosting. The bottom layer was the most delicious German chocolate and the top layer was vanilla and raspberry. Despite the popularity of the slider bar that was served for dinner the cake pretty much got inhaled upon cutting!

It was an honor to also officiate the wedding; a short and intimate ceremony which featured this passage by Hilary T Smith chosen by the bride:

“People are like cities: We all have alleys and gardens and secret rooftops and places where daisies sprout between the sidewalk cracks, but most of the time all we let each other see is is a postcard glimpse of a skyline or a polished square. Love lets you find those hidden places in another person, even the ones they didn’t know were there, even the ones they wouldn’t have thought to call beautiful themselves.”

We used other favorite quotes and song lyrics on signage to bring some personal details into their day.

The wedding was an intimate and meaningful celebration of a couple who chose to throw out the rule book and do things the way that worked for them, something that we whole heartedly encourage and celebrate! In addition to her two beautiful bridesmaids, Stephanie also had a bride’s man. Her brother gave her away. And after choosing to forego a first dance, ‘cos ‘they’re weird and awkward’ the couple line danced with their friends until the lights went out.
