Jenn & Martin are two of our favorite 2019 clients so when Jenn messaged us saying that for visa reasons they needed to do the legal part of the wedding this year, we jumped at the chance to create another epic celebration for them! Martin believed the plan was just to go to a courthouse but Jenn wanted to do something that felt a little more romantic and asked for us for ideas. We concocted a plan to surprise Martin, by telling him they were just modeling for a styled shoot. He had no idea that he was in fact there for his real wedding day until he read a heartfelt letter Jenn had written him and saw his two close friends, one of whom had flown in from Chicago especially to witness the marriage.
When we started planning and sussing out things that were meaningful to them as a couple, the movie LaLa Land came out high on the list! So that’s where the concept started… since heading to LA was not really an option we wanted to take some of the Old Hollywood vibes from the movie as well as lyrics that they loved and combine it with the Seattle skyline, a love letter to the city they love.
Within Sodo was the perfect venue. It’s rooftop gives an incredible view of the Seattle landscape and the indoors is so eclectic with it’s mirrored wall and industrial lighting. The perfect backdrop for some mid century glam.
Kendra K and Alayna Erhart are vendors I’ve followed on instagram for ages and absolutely love so I was so excited to work with them both. They bring this incredible energy and positivity to everything they touch and were just a joy to work with. The photos and movie are something Jenn & Martin will treasure forever, and as a designer, they totally brought my vision to life.
Jenn chose the fairytale Fleur de Lis gown from Hayley Paige, which we teamed with stunning Old Hollywood style waves and a red lip, in homage to Emma Stone’s iconic look in the movie.
A line from that song ‘Rat a tat tat on my heart’ also formed the backdrop for the beautiful heart felt ceremony.
After reading the letter and shedding a few tears we took Martin up to the rooftop where Jenn was waiting for him and after a beautifully emotional first look that had everyone bawling they were married. Jenn chose this reading from Wild Awake by Hilary T Smith for their short intimate ceremony “People are like cities: We all have alleys and gardens and secret rooftops and places where daisies sprout between the sidewalk cracks, but most of the time all we let each other see is is a postcard glimpse of a skyline or a polished square. Love lets you find those hidden places in another person, even the ones they didn’t know were there, even the ones they wouldn’t have thought to call beautiful themselves.”
After hugs with their close friends the couple indulged in some cake before exploring the back streets of SODO in Seattle with Kendra & Alayna to capture their crazy whirlwind movie love!
This elopement was so utterly magical and we’re overjoyed that we get to marry them all over again next July!
